New compost system will fuel future vegetable production

Writer: Steve and LynnSteve and Lynn

Updated: Feb 14

Orchid Meadows now has a comprehensive composting system, all put together from odds and ends we already had. The picture shows Lynn officially 'opening' the unit. There are three compartments. New material goes into the left-hand one and after six months will be forked into the compartment to its right, being turned and aerated in the process. After another six months, it ends up in the third compartment. Eighteen months after the start, it should have a nice earthy smell and texture and be ready for use!
