Blue egg layers arrive at Orchid Meadows

A week ago we welcomed three new hens to our henhouse. Meet Jenny, Josie and Judy (not necessarily shown in that order), Araucana hybrids from the Pencwarre poultry farm near Cardigan. The Araucana breed originated in Chile and looks very distinctive with birds often displaying bushy ear tufts, little backside and no tail feathers. In our case, these features have been 'watered down' genetically to produce these beauties. The main attraction is that they produce blue eggs (outside only; usual colours inside!). Guests at Tawny Cottage, Red Kite Yurt and Goldfinch Glampavan this summer can look forward to bacon and eggs with a difference!
